It is a joyful moment whenever a woman is expecting a baby, however, pregnancy may also cause the skin of a woman to break out as never before. Well, you should not bother about that in any way; it’s normal for the progesterone level of the pregnant woman to rise. And it can result in an unpleasant skin ailment. The good news is that there’s remedy! In case you are thinking of getting any kind of acne treatment while pregnant, you need to be aware of critical details before stepping out. There are some acne medications that are harmful for expecting mothers and these medications must be avoided.

Acne Treatment Options during Pregnancy — What to stay away from Accutane

You have to be careful about the sort of acne treatment you seek for if you are pregnant. There are specific acne treatments that are firmly to be avoided during pregnancy. One such treatment is Accutane. This is one drug that a pregnant woman should NEVER take. It has been verified over and over that accutane leads to birth defects, and also has high possibility of causing miscarriage.

Currently, the law demands females using accutane to enroll in a national database and subsequently be tested for pregnancy every other 30 days. This is to ensure that such women are not taking accutane while pregnant, or that they have not become pregnant in the course of the medication. The fact is to make sure that a pregnant lady is kept off from any such treatment that can hurt the unborn baby.

Retin-A

Another acne medication that doctors are not willing to recommend to pregnant women is Retin-A. This treatment is also a derivative of vitamin A but not as concentrated as Accutane. It is applied topically. A small amount of Retin-A does goes into the blood stream when applied; this makes Retin-A an dangerous acne medication during pregnancy.

Tetracycline

You’ll certainly love to stay safe and protect the fetus during pregnancy; if your answer is yes, then it’s also advisable to keep off from tetracycline. Without doubt, tetracycline works well for acne treatment as an oral antibiotic, but remember that it is medically confirmed that the drug has a negative effect on the bone structure of the unborn baby. Also, there are certain creams and cleansers at the local drug stores that are not totally safe acne treatments during pregnancy. Salicylic acid and Benzylperoxide are the 2 ingredients that most of the over-the-counter remedies for acne contain. These ingredients are potentially dangerous for the pregnant woman.

Safe Acne Treatment during Pregnancy — Try them out

You may be thinking there isn’t any secure acne treatment option left for the pregnant woman; of course there is. It’s going to be the natural way. Natural remedies for acne are the safest choice for a pregnant woman. In addition to the natural treatment detailed below, a healthy dietary pattern is also necessary.

Lemon Juice

Exactly like any other astringent, lemon juice can be directly applied onto the face using a cotton swab. Alternatively, you can prepare a soothing wash by mixing up lemon juice with milk. This natural acne remedy is safe to be used during pregnancy.

Oatmeal

This is one of the most economical and successful natural remedies for acne and it is safe for a pregnant woman. You can abandon the cream and sugar when preparing it. Apply directly to your face and wash off with warm water after about fifteen minutes or a bit more.

Also try out a combination of honey and cinnamon; it works perfectly in drying out the acne spots. A natural astringent you should also explore is, Witch hazel; it is quite effective in acne treatment. The natural remedies are usually mild and may take time to produce a noticeable result; nevertheless, it is better to take it slow and steady and keep yourself and your baby safe.

While pregnant or breastfeeding the best advice is not to take any drugs at all. You have to consider your baby first and try to minimize any harmful substances that he or she might take in. If you absolutely have to take action then the best option is topical acne fighting preparation.

Before planning pregnancy it is best to consult your doctor or dermatologist. Ask them which acne treatments are safe for you to use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. There are some medications that are perfectly safe when you are not pregnant but may be harmful to your developing fetus or breastfeeding child.

There are few medications that your doctor or dermatologist may prescribe during pregnancy. Here is a list.

Azelaic Acid — This is a chemical that is naturally produced by yeast. Products such as Finevin and Azelex have this as an active ingredient.

Erythromycin — This is an antibiotic that is found in many topical prescription medicines.

Benzamycin Gel — Benzoyl Peroxide and Erythromycin are found in this medication.

Azelaic acid is classified by the FDA or U.S Food and Drug Administration as a class B drug during pregnancy. They have tested this drug on animals carrying fetuses and found that it was not harmful. However, there have not been sufficient studies on humans to conclude that it is safe for women during pregnancy.

It is possible for this drug to be transmitted through your breast milk. So if you are breastfeeding it should only be taken if absolutely necessary, and with the advice of your doctor and dermatologist.

If you can, it is best that you go through your pregnancy and breastfeeding without taking any oral medication. Oral erythromycin is safe to take if you are not allergic to this drug. Again, please consult your doctor. If you are allergic or it is not working then your dermatologist may be able to prescribe an alternative oral antibiotic.

This is only advice. Please consult your doctor or dermatologist before taking any medication. Your baby should always come first.

When a woman is pregnant, that is the most delicate stage of her life. It’s delicate not just for her but also for her unborn child. That’s the stage when they just can’t eat any kind of food, nor can they just use any kind of drug or medication. This article looks closely at the kind of treatment that pregnant women shouldn’t take. Please ensure that you adhere to the tips in this article, for your safety and that of your unborn child.

When it comes to acne and pregnant women, there are certain acne treatment that shouldn’t be taken. Such treatment have been known to have adverse side effects if taken during pregnancy. Instead of taking such treatment during pregnancy it’s even better not to take anything at all when you have acne during pregnancy. A fact is that the acne most often just goes away after the pregnant woman gives birth.

One of the most popular acne treatment that shouldn’t be taken during pregnancy is Isotretinoin. This treatment can cause very negative effects not just for women who are pregnant but also for those who are breastfeeding. If this must be taken, then it must be under the full guidance and monitoring by an expert. But it’s much better for it not to be taken at all, until way after the pregnancy and after breastfeeding.

Another is hormonal therapy that includes estrogen, spirolactone and estrogen. All of these are not good for pregnant women, regardless of whether they are very effective against acne or not. What’s most important to a woman who is pregnant is not getting rid of acne but giving birth to the baby safely.

Also, topical retinoids like tazarotene, tretinoin and even adapalene are not good at all for women who are pregnant as they can harm not just the woman but her unborn child as well.

Most importantly, ensure that when you are pregnant you must seek the advice of your doctor before taking any other type of treatment, whether for acne or any other ailment. You should NEVER take any drug or treatment without the guidance of your doctor, even if you think you know what you are doing.

It’s very important that you adhere to the above tips, to ensure your safety and that of your unborn child, during pregnancy and even when you give birth. Women who didn’t adhere to these tips had themselves to blame. Like they say — “a word is enough for the wise”.

As though the constant backaches, migraines, nausea and the actual delivery weren’t enough for the mommies expecting a child, acne has joined the ride to even further the stress of giving birth. To find an acne treatment during pregnancy has been added to the list of headaches most moms (and dads) have to go through. In the gestation months, the level of hormones is increased; this hormonal increase will result to the many skin changes including acne.

Acne occurs in the first two or three months of pregnancy. This is the time when hormonal changes are profound (progesterone). Progesterone boosts the secretion of the skin, which creates the glands that produces the oil to activate. This activation then triggers an easy spot for bacteria to breed and show up in the skin through acne. Good news for the mommies because there are acne treatment during pregnancy available, safe and easy to find or use.

Herbal & Home Treatments

There are a wide selection of herbs and household products which can be great aid at treating acne, especially the kind of acne outbreaks that occur as a result of hormones during pregnancy. But don’t jump right into using any herbal or home products without consulting your doctor whether they are safe or not. There are some completely natural herbs which can induce contractions, so you can’t assume “all natural” means it is a safe acne treatment during pregnancy.

The Best Ingredients

When looking for effective ingredients for acne treatment during pregnancy, find that the natural ways always deliver the goods with efficacy and best results. Lavender oil, for instance, can be safely used applied on the acne-infested skin area. It is a powerful anti –oxidant and can cure all types of skin ailments. In addition, it is also mild on the skin and don’t cause any side effects. Belladona is taken as a supplement instead of topical. In the event that your acne has pus formation, use belladonna.

Hepar Sulphur is used to treat cystic acne that is painful, big and filled with pus(may we add gross, yucky and plain gross). Do not pinch your acne if you want to avoid the even uglier scars. Rose is another essential oil that can be used for acne treatment during pregnancy. Rose oil can be used on mild acne cases and infections. Witch hazel is used as an astringent and available in stores. And lastly, Kali Bromatum can also cure troublesome blemishes, and is sold in health food stores and online.

Extra Tips

Clean your face using a gentle cleanser. Using toning and exfoliating to your skin means you have to always ensure that you use the gentlest of formulas to your skin as an acne treatment during pregnancy. Benzoyl peroxide creams are considered safe among over the counter creams or products for acne treatment during pregnancy. It should be used in moderation (as what the medical community say so). Go for those that contains 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide instead of those containing 5 or 10 percent benzoyl peroxide content.

Did you know that more than 25% of the adult population worldwide suffers from acne? If we leave the pages of statistical data and look at people with plain eyes it will be hard to find a man or a woman who did not suffer the gnawing problem of zits. However, even though this problem is “skin deep”, its effects germinate into bouts of despair and social angst, which jeopardizes quality of life.

Digging Into The Roots Of Adult Acne

Sebum secreted from the hair follicles moves to the skin pores and lubricates the skin. But sometimes the oil glands expand, producing an excess of sebum, which ultimately gets trapped in the hair follicle and clogs the pores. These clogged pores permit bacteria and growth of Propionibacterium acnes. This bacteria causes inflammation of the hair follicle and the surrounding skin and thus acne emerges.

Though till now the exact causes of adult acne are not known, most of the theories suggest hormonal imbalances as the root cause. Some other causes proposed are evolutionary biology, diet, stress, vitamin deficiency and the list goes on.

Some Effective Treatments To Get Rid Of Adult Acne

Studies reveal that Vitamin A plays an important role in the reduction of serum and keratin production and thus minimizes their growth in follicle comedos. So, nourish your system with Vitamin A and take at least five servings of vegetables and fresh fruits daily. However, always consult a doctor before starting up with any kind of regime.

Zinc is an important element in treating acne too. Zinc enhances the functions of Vitamin A and lends a helping hand in the healing and regeneration of tissues. Zinc also reduces the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, which shrinks sebum production.

Most acne sufferers lack Selenium, which plays a crucial role in the action of the enzyme Gluthathione Peroxidase that prevents the inflammation of the hair follicle. Vitamin E minimizes this process and plays a vital part in the action of Vitamin A and Selenium.

Friendly bacteria, Acidophilus, can check injurious intestinal bacteria including yeasts such as Candida albicans. You can take in Acidophilus either in gel capsule form or as yogurt with live culture.

Benozyl peroxide reduces pimples and is effective for acne. You can have it in cream or lotion form.

Creams containing sulphur are also useful in treating acne

Medications containing iodide and bromide can worsen your acne condition so stay away from such products.

All these things are medicines, all of which may have side effects and should not be taken without a prescription and the guidance of a doctor.

Good News For Foodies

You will be glad to know that chocolate or fried foods do not cause acne. These foods are often seen as unhealthy food habits and therefore “must be” related to skin breakouts, but this theory has no scientific backing.

However, foods which are high in refined sugar, trans-fatty acid (milk products) oxidized fatty acids (fried oils) and synthetically hydrogenated vegetable oil contents may not cause acne but are definitely not very good for your health, and so an excess of these foods should be avoided. You can be infected with intestinal toxemia if your diet is low on fiber and essential vitamins and high on these contents. The result of glut of toxins may show on your skin.

Some Natural Remedies Of Adult Acne

The good news about the use of natural things is that they come without the risk of side effects.

Name And Fame Of Some Natural Ingredients

Azelaic acid

This acid makes the keratin production stable and you will get almost same results as using Benzoyl– Peroxide or oral antibiotics.

Tea Tree Oil

Reduces acne with its antibacterial and antifungal qualities.

Green Tea

A renowned antioxidant, which trims down inflammation and infection

Topical Vitamin C And E

Both are strong antioxidants, which improve skin condition by diminishing inflammation and infection.

Fruit Acids (AHAs And BHAs)

These acids gently exfoliate your skin, leaving it smooth.

Some Tips To Control Outbursts Of Adult Acne

Cleanse your face with a mild soap or sulphur soap but do not rub your face with a towel.

Never ever pick or squeeze the zits, it will only worsen your skin condition.

Some acne treatment products will hike up your skin’s photosensitivity so when you are using these products, use a sunscreen and wear a hat when you are out. Avoid the tanning booths while using these products as well.

Try to avoid the use of oil-based products on your skin. To prevent the clogging of pores use only “noncomdomedogenic” skin products

Try to avoid friction from sports equipment and airborne grease from fast food places; these can make your acne worse.

Along with a good diet include at least 8 to ten glasses of water in your daily regimen to keep your system clean and the skin glowing

Choosing the right path will help your skin get rid of adult acne scars. Make your skin dazzle with a smooth glow by following the tips in this article.

What is Acne Vulgaris? This is a medical term used to describe most cases of acne. It really isn’t as bad as it sounds! Vulgaris doesn’t mean that the acne is vulgar, only that it means that it is common.

Be aware that there are many factors that contribute to acne. First, research indicates a propensity for acne may well be inherited. Parents who had acne in their teenage and young adult years may have children who are likewise prone to having acne in their teen and young adult years.

Next, clogged skin pores are certainly a major contributing factor for acne out-breaks. When pores become clogged with an excess production of sebum and mix with dead skin cells or makeup that isn’t sufficiently cleaned from the skin, problems start to develop. When skin pores are clogged, bacteria are produced and pus starts to form causing a pimple, a white head or a black head.

The most commonly accepted causes for acne are hormonal imbalances. Hormones in boys and girls may become unbalanced during puberty, during menstrual cycles, when starting or stopping birth control pills, during times of extreme stress, and at other times as well.

All of the above situations can cause the body to over produce a male hormone which causes the sebaceous glands to produce sebum. The sebum combines with dead skin cells to block pores and acne develops. So, basically, it still comes back to blocked pores.

Other causes for acne include a lack of vitamins, minerals and trace elements that the body needs to maintain a healthy skin. Vitamins A, E and B6 are especially important in maintaining healthy skin as are zinc, essential fatty acids (EFA), Chromium and Selenium.

Most diets of teenagers and young adults do not contain these vitamins, minerals, and trace elements in sufficient quantity to maintain healthy skin and to help prevent the onset of Acne.

Acne: The 8 Stages:

Full blown, Stage 8 acne doesn’t usually develop overnight. Acne is progressive condition. Acne is one of the diseases that are so common that it is sometimes just disregarded as a serious problem…like the common cold. It has been estimated that 95 of people will have at least a mild case of acne at some point in their lives.

Acne, much like the common cold, is usually treated by the sufferer with over-the-counter medications that alleviate the symptoms of the disease in the belief that it will simply go away all by itself.…eventually. And, it usually does but not always.

Most people throughout their life will have the occasional pimple, zit, white head or black head.

Although these pesky little outbreaks do seem to appear at the most inopportune times, they really aren’t a serious problem that requires medical attention. A little over-the-counter acne facial wash to help prevent another outbreak will usually take care of the problem. It isn’t a big deal. This kind of acne is referred to as Stage 0 and really nothing to be concerned about unless the acne progresses to subsequent stages.

Acne stages are graded from 0 through 8. Zero is the least severe and 8 is the most serious of the stages. The stages are as follows:

Stage 1: There will be white heads and black heads with some mild inflammation. The outbreaks will start to occur more frequently. Using products that contain Benzyl Peroxide are in order.

Stage 2: There will be some papules in addition to the white heads and black heads. Papules are skin lesions that are solid and raised but usually small. This is still considered to be a very mild case of acne. Treatment can be continued using over-the-counter products that contain Salicylic Acid.

Stage 3: Stage 3 is the same as stage 2 but with more frequent occurrences.

Stage 4–5: Pustules begin to appear. Now, it’s time to schedule an appointment at a dermatologist.

Stage 6–7: Nodules and cysts are forming. Scarring is going to start happening at this stage. Your dermatologist will begin to take more drastic action.

Stage 8: Breakouts are almost continuous and include nodules and cysts. There are modern technologies that will help and your dermatologist will advise you.

Acne Skin Care:

As we know, our hair follicles secrete sebum. Sebum makes its way up the hair follicles to the skin pores where it lubricates and protects the skin. Sometimes there are oil glands which get overworked, get enlarge, and produce too much sebum. The sebum can get trapped in the hair follicle.

When this happens the pores get clogged and black heads or white heads form and the bacteria start to multiply at an alarmingly fast rate.

Once you understand this process, you can see the reasoning behind the advice about caring for skin that has black heads, white heads and pustules on it.

The first piece of advice about caring for acne infected skin is to never pick at the pimples. Don’t try to pop them and drain them. This will not cure them no matter what anybody tells you. Popping them will only serve to make them worse…not better.

However, there are things that you can do that really will help.

The first thing you can do is to wash your face with a mild soap or a sulfur based soap. Wash your face with just your finger tips. Don’t ever use a wash cloth as it holds germs and bacteria. Rinse your face with clean water several times to ensure you remove all traces of soap, and then pat it dry with a clean towel. Do not rub your face with the towel and never use the same towel twice without it being clean.

Take a good multi-vitamin and multi-mineral supplement every day and drink at least 8 full glasses of water (not soda) every day. The vitamins and minerals will supply nutrients that are absent from most diets and the water will help to hydrate the skin as well as to flush toxins out of your system.

If you use over-the-counter acne medications, be certain that you follow the directions carefully and that you use a good sunscreen when you are outdoors as some acne medications make the skin more prone to sunburn.

Adult Acne:

Acne is not just a problem for teenagers and young adults. Once a person survives the teenage years, you would think that they don’t have to deal with the embarrassment of acne any longer, right? Well.…not exactly.

The sad truth is that about 25 of women will have acne at some time in their 20s, 30s or even 40s. Although there has never been a real cause established, it is believed that most adult acne is caused by the same thing that causes teenage acne…hormonal changes.

A doctor will sometimes prescribe hormonal treatments that will clear a case of adult acne right up. As with teenage acne, adult acne is not caused by diet. Stress has often been cited as one possible cause of adult acne but that assertion has never been verified.

Treating adult acne is a bit more difficult than treating teenage acne. Adults have the concern of drying out their skin that teenagers don’t normally have to deal with. Adults don’t want pimples; but, they don’t want wrinkles, either. A dermatologist should be consulted if the acne is long lasting or is severe.

There are many treatments that are available to adults who suffer from acne. Most of the effective treatments are only available by prescription. Adults should not use over-the-counter acne medications that are intended for the treatment of teenage acne. These products tend to dry the skin and adults need to be concerned about wrinkling as well as acne.

A case of adult acne is not a happy occurrence to say because those ugly bumps always seem to occur at the most inopportune times and while a teenager may be embarrassed by acne, an adult is even more devastated.

Fortunately, there are treatments and a dermatologist has a lot of weapons in his arsenal to fight adult acne.

Acne Scar Removal Options:

Life hardly seems fair sometimes! First, a teenager or a young adult must suffer through acne, treat it, and have to live with it…sometimes for years. Then the acne is gone; but, the scars are there as a painful reminder of the mental and emotional agony the acne sufferer had to endure.

You’re right, life doesn’t seem fair; but, acne is one of those sad facts of life that some if not most of us have to deal with. The good news is there is help; unfortunately, it isn’t free or cheap!

There are two basic procedures that are used to remove ugly pits and scars left over from a bad case of teenage or young adult acne. Laser resurfacing is the least expensive of the two available acne scar removal procedures. Dermabrasion is the second procedure.

Laser resurfacing can be done in the dermatologist office instead of a hospital so that provides a much greater financial savings. A laser is used to remove the top layer of skin and also to tighten the middle layer of skin.

The dermatologist will use a local anesthetic to help reduce the procedure pain. It usually takes several days for the skin to heal after a laser resurfacing procedure is completed. Very often, multiple resurfacing treatments must be done to achieve the desired results.

The second procedure used to remove acne scarring is called dermabrasion. In this procedure, a rotating wire brush is used to remove the top layer of skin. The body continually produces new skin and the new layer will be smoother than the layer that was removed. It usually takes between 10 days and 3 weeks for the skin to heal after a dermabrasion treatment. Once again, multiple treatments may be required to eliminate the scarring.

Acne may seem to be a devastating condition but with proper skin routine, vitamins, and over the counter products, most cases will not be severe. Remember, proper cleansing goes a long way towards minimizing outbreaks, so don’t be afraid to cleanse your face 5 — 6 times a day of more if needed.

Fight acne by being smart. Take as many preventative steps as possible to avoid situations that create the opportunity for acne to develop. If acne does afflict you, consult a qualified medical professional before deciding on a course of action.

Acne Cures: Remedies and Treatment Methods to Relieve Acne
by: Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN

Acne affects people of every age, gender, and race. It usually strikes in plainly visible locations such as the face, neck, chest and back. Acne can be caused by a number of factors such as contact with an oily substance, use of certain medication, steroids, or the secretion of certain hormones. Over ninety percent of acne patients respond to treatment, although the treatment may need to be continued for months or even years. Here are a few natural remedies that you can use to cure acne.

What Causes Acne?

As mentioned above, acne can be caused by a number of factors. Common causes of acne include contact with an oily substance such as mineral oil, vegetable oil, or petroleum and the use of certain medication such as steroids or the contraceptive pill. However, acne is most often caused by the secretion of androgens, or sex hormones that are initially secreted at the onset of puberty. Androgens are male hormones but they are secreted by females as well. They stimulate the production of oil from the skin’s oil glands. When these oil glands become overactive and the exit from the gland is blocked, oil builds up in the gland and they begin to swell. This is how acne forms. A bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes normally colonizes this swollen gland causing the development of inflammation and pus. In particularly severe cases, the glands may burst into the skin and produce cysts. Recently health practitioners are associating acne with a fungus on the face. A clogged colon can also contribute to acne. We recommend using a colon cleanser like Oxy-Powder to keep the bowel clean.

How Can I Cure Acne?

Home Remedies:

A non-oily face wash that contains tea tree oil or echinacea can help to reduce the incidence of acne breakouts. Wash your face twice a day in the morning and evenings and rinse thoroughly with warm purified water.

Avoid oily and chemically ridden cosmetics or any facial products that contain socetyl stearate, isopropyl isostearate, isopropyl palmitate, isopropyl myristate, and sodium chloride, parabens as these ingredients can cause acne.

Give dry skin extra care, being sure to wash and rinse your face thoroughly and using products especially made for dry skin.

Natural astringent cleansers work to remove the oil buildup that may become blocked in the skin’s glands. These products may cause dryness, itching, and redness, so be sure to use them only on problem areas.

Oxy-Skin™ is also a very effective natural remedy for the elimination of acne.

Herbal Remedies: Herbs such as chamomile, lavender, juniper, bergamot, dandelion root, and burdock root can be used to reduce toxicity and improve the overall condition of the skin. Echinacea and poke root are often used for their anti-inflammatory properties and red clover may be beneficial for its estrogenic action. Witch hazel has excellent astringent properties and may be very effective on acne. Here are a few natural herbal recipes to cure acne.

Combine ground ginger with milk and apply to the affected area.

Make a paste of honey and cinnamon and apply to the affected area at night. In the morning, wash this paste with warm water. Continue for one-two weeks.

Mix lemon juice with cinnamon and apply to acne

Mix ground orange peel with water to form a paste and apply to the affected spots. Wash with warm water after twenty to thirty minutes.

Rub fresh garlic on acne at frequent intervals to acne.

Use the juice of raw papaya to relieve swelling acne.

Make a paste of salt and vinegar and wash off after twenty to thirty minutes.

Rub fresh mint juice over acne.

Make a paste of turmeric and vinegar and apply to acne. Rinse with lukewarm water after twenty to thirty minutes.

Drink wheat grass juice to prevent and cure acne.

Apply a poultice of ground sesame seeds and water on acne to reduce inflammation.

Complementary Treatment

Acupuncture: Stagnant of Chi in the channels of the face is said to be the cause of acne. Acupuncture performed on these points of the face may help relieve acne.

Homeopathy: For patients with pustules and blind boils, especially on the face, neck, and back, may be helped by Kali brom. Selenium is often used for acne sufferers with oily skin, blackheads, and pustules.

Conventional Treatment– These treatmens we do not recommend.

Medication: Conventional acne medications may be topical– applied directly to the skin– or they may be systemic– taken internally. Medications include benzoyl peroxide, retinoic acid, steroids, antibiotics, oral contraceptives, and isotretinoin (Accutane.)

Therapeutic Injections: In severe cases of acne where cysts form and scars have developed, doctors have had some success with injecting steroids directly into the cyst to resolve the cysts and diminish the appearance of scars.

Surgery: In moderate to severe cases of acne, doctors may use surgery to open up the blemishes and remove blackheads and whiteheads. Unlike medication treatments, the effects of acne surgery are usually more immediate.

Some people may begin to have acne while pregnant, even though they never have acne before. This is because pregnancy is often accompanied by many changes in your body system, such as hormonal changes, stress level changes, and dietary changes. If you have acne while you are pregnant, you should pay attention that you cannot take any kinds of oral medications because it usually will harm your baby and oral medications also have many side effects.

In this article, we will discuss about some acne treatment tips for pregnant mom that can help you in taking the right treatment for your acne while you are pregnant.

Here are 5 acne treatment tips for pregnant mom:

1. Stay Calm and Reduce Your Stress Level

Pregnant women usually have high stress level and this is not good for your skin. If you have acne while pregnant, your high stress level will naturally make your acne worse, and also make your skin looks unhealthy. It is recommended for you to do anything necessary to keep your emotion calm and reduce your stress level by suppressing anger, listening to the classic music, practicing yoga, and doing more fun in your life.

2. Wash Your Face with The Right Cleanser 2 Times a Day

Keep your face clean by washing it twice a day with the right cleanser that is compatible with your skin. You can also consult your dermatologist to see if certain cleanser is good for your skin or not. Do not wash your face too much because it is known that washing your face too much with cleanser may cause irritation and more breakouts.

3. Use 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide as a Topical Treatment

Benzoyl peroxide is the best component used in many acne products to help you eliminate your acne quickly. You can take a cream of benzoyl peroxide or an acne product containing benzoyl peroxide and apply it in your acne topically. But you must be mindful that benzoyl peroxide may cause irritation and dryness in your skin. If your skin is not compatible with benzoyl peroxide, stop the usage immediately.

4. Use Salicylic Acid as Topical Cream

Salicylic acid is known as the second best topical treatment next to benzoyl peroxide. It is lighter than benzoyl peroxide. Salicylic acid might be useful for you. You can take it as needed. You can easily find acne products that contain this component in a form of cleansers or creams.

5. Change Your Diet

Dietary change is common while you are pregnant. You begin to eat too much junk food. Unfortunately, junk food can cause acne and it is a great contribution for the development of acne inside your body. So, to eliminate your acne you need to change your diet by eating a lot of well ripened fruits and vegetables, drinking a lot of water, and avoid junk food as much as you can.

Baby Acne
by: Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN

Much to many parents dismay, baby acne is very common. The hormones that are transferred from mother to baby at birth and with breastfeeding can sometimes cause this annoying but painless condition. Baby acne usually appears as small whiteheads on the infant’s cheeks, chin and forehead. It may be present at birth, or it may show up after the baby is a few weeks old. If you think your baby has acne, read on to learn more about this condition and what you can do about it.

What Is Acne?

Acne is usually associated with teenagers, as it is often caused by the sex hormones that are released with puberty. But it can affect babies as well. The scientific name for the condition is acne vulgaris because acne usually strikes in plainly visible locations such as the face, neck, chest and back. It occurs when an oil gland becomes blocked.

As excess oil is not allowed to exit, the gland swells and may even become infected.

Does My Baby Have Acne?

If your baby’s skin is irritated, it could be due to a number of conditions. Baby acne usually occurs on the baby’s cheeks, forehead, chin, and even the back. The pimples are actually small whiteheads that are surrounded by red, irritated and maybe even inflamed skin. Baby acne may become more pronounced when your baby is hot or fussy, or if his skin is irritated. Common irritants include saliva, spit-up milk, soap, and clothing that has been washed in strong chemical detergent.

If your baby has tiny bumps on his face at birth this may also be milia. These little bumps are unrelated to acne and they will disappear on their own within a few weeks. Cradle cap is another condition that may be irritating your baby’s skin. However, this condition looks scalier than acne and it usually occurs at other points on the body like the top of the head and behind the ears. If your baby’s breakout looks more like a rash, it may be eczema.

What Causes Baby Acne?

There are a number of factors that may cause baby acne. As with adolescent acne, the condition can be caused by a skin irritation, certain medications, or by a hormonal change. Contact with an oil substances such as petroleum oil or mineral oil can cause baby acne. And if you are taking certain medications while nursing, or if your baby is taking some medications, this may cause a breakout. The maternal hormones that are passed from you to the baby at the end of the pregnancy could also be the cause of your baby’s acne.

Does Baby Acne Hurt?

More often than not, you will be more affected by your baby’s acne than she is. Baby acne does not itch, sting, or hurt in any way. And she is too young to notice her unsightly appearance. So it is more likely that baby acne will bother you, than your baby. However, with severe cases of baby acne, the blemishes may become so swollen and inflamed that they cause or add to your baby’s fussiness. See your health care provider if you think your baby’s acne is causing her aggravation.

How long Does Baby Acne Last?

Baby acne usually clears up within a few weeks. But it may come and go until your baby is six months old. See your health care professional if your baby’s acne is particularly severe, or if it persists into your child’s toddler years.

How Can I Treat My Baby’s Acne?

Treating baby acne is more about what you should not do rather than what you should do. Do not scrub or vigorously wash your baby’s skin. This will only cause further irritation to the sensitive skin. Wash your baby’s face with water and some mild baby soap once a day. If she has particularly sensitive skin, wash with warm water only.

Avoid putting any creams, lotions or oils on your baby’s skin. These products can also irritate acne. Use a natural fabric detergent that is made for sensitive skin to wash your baby’s clothes.

Can I Cover My Baby’s Acne With Make Up?

While it is possible to reduce the appearance of baby acne with make up, it is not advisable. Your baby’s skin is very sensitive and make up only adds irritation to this sensitive area. However, there may be special occasions when you choose to use make up to conceal your baby’s acne. A photo shoot or special family event may warrant such treatment. Be sure to purchase a organic, chemical free concealer that is made for sensitive skin and use a product that matches your baby’s delicate skin tone.
